Green It – Green Living Made Easy!
As more and more people green it, they realize the good effect it has on our planet, it is becoming a more accepted way of life. Yet, there are still those who aren’t sure how to successfully make this a part of their lives.
You’ve probably noticed that living green is everywhere these days–in the news, politics, fashion, and even technology. Many people think that when you live green, you have to live completely without modern comforts. They expect to have to do without things like running water and electricity. Of course this isn’t true. When you make the decision to change your way of living in order to help our planet, you don’t really have to give up all the necessities and luxuries you’re used to. So how do you begin to live green?
Green It By The Choices You Make
“Green it” means cutting the clutter and restoring simplicity to your daily life by conserving energy, reducing waste, and recycling materials. Simple living connects you with your family and with nature in a way that technology can’t achieve. Green living is about living healthy, being a smarter consumer, eliminating excesses and returning to natural products.
The truth is that every single thing we do every day has an impact on the earth. You have the power to control most of your choices and, therefore, the impact you create: from where you live to what you buy, eat, and use to light your home to where and how you vacation, to how you shop, you can have a big impact. You can look at making small changes in your eco-friendly home. Choosing products which have little packaging can help keep your home eco-friendly. Many items can now be recycled, however, it’s the energy that it takes to create excess packaging that can be the problem. Taking packaging into account when you go shopping will help you green it. Buying in bulk helps reduce excessive individual packaging. In fact, buying in bulk can be a great choice to keep your home eco-friendly and financially fit since the per-unit price for items is usually lower when items are purchased in a larger quantities.
Home-Owner or Renter – You Can Green It
Those who rent often feel more helpless than homeowners in controlling their environment and using green solutions. Those who own their own homes have much more control on the type of appliances and products purchased and also can make even more drastic changes to their home in order to help with their environmental impact. Since renters don’t make decisions on the type of air conditioning units, water heaters, or other major appliances that decide how energy-efficient the unit is; it can seem like there isn’t much you can do to be more “green”. There are, however, lots of ways that renters can use green solutions.
If your apartment has a washer, choose to use cold water when washing. This can save you as much as 79% in the energy used on laundry. Running full loads of laundry will add to the energy savings. Recycling whenever possible is one more thing you can do to green-it when renting. If you don’t have access to a recycling program where you rent, find the a recycling drop-off center and take your things there. Water energy can be conserved by not running water while brushing your teeth and by spending less time in the shower. Turn down your thermostat by two degrees in the winter and increase it by two degrees in the summer. You’ll not only be saving energy but you’ll be saving money as well. Take some time to find where you can use green products and green technologies whenever possible.
Manufacturers are recognizing that consumers are very much concerned about renewable resources. More and more businesses are finding ways to use sun energy and other green technologies in running their businesses.
Always keep in mind that even the small things can do a lot. Take the first step to green it now and you will be amazed at the difference you can make.
